There are many new social media marketing businesses starting around the globe. When Oprah mentioned Twitter on the air, a social media phoenix arose from the ashes. Now, beginning my own business, I’ve been inundated with endless marketing campaigns from new social media marketing firms throughout the world.
But how are these social media firms protecting themselves? Certainly, there are business processes in place at these firms. Have they understood what those processes are? Taking orders from clients, designs, contracting/legal, copyrighting, billing/accounts receivable, accounts payable, etc. What if any of those processes were to fail and be unavailable for days or weeks?
In business, failing to plan is a plan for failure. I’ve seen many social media business startups offering services seemingly without following any processes. While sometimes the offers are for free consultations, many times I’m instructed to “just call us and we’ll get started on your web site right away.” Formal processes are a must in any business.
For those businesses with processes in place, how does the business protect those processes? What impacts does a failed process have on doing business in the marketplace? What risks exist that could result in failure of each business process? What strategies exist in the company to protect those processes? What alternative management plans exist (must be documented in black and white) to continue those processes and recover them expeditiously? And how often are those impacts, risks, strategies, and plans confirmed by testing them?
So what are social media marketing firms doing to protect their business processes? With so many new startups, preparation is a key to helping ensure viability in the marketplace. Many firms have not even defined their business processes. Have those with formal processes begun the protection preparation of those processes to ensure continuity of the business? Comment and let me know what is really going on with your social media marketing startup. ( 0 Votes ) |
